Visual: This is Mario if he were a real-world person. Average height, a little fat – he wears black, though, black shirt black gloves, acid-washed, almost purple, black denim overalls, decked out in chains and studs because he is punk as hell. His eyes are dark shadows. He HAS a copy of Mario’s hat but in black, he just prefers not to wear it. His hair is brown and super average.
Only partially joking:
If he’s around for in-game more than a month, his supernaturally Mario Essence red hair IS going to start growing out again. He has to dye that shit. He’s going to be so pissed.
Aural: no Italian accent. A voice that is just full of emotion, always. He wears those on his sleeve. [video here], if you want it. or take [a second video], which is my favorite, even tho the ending is a little over the top. uh. darkness himself actually shows up at 0:36.
Demeanor: HE WEARS HIS FEELINGS ON HIS SLEEVE. If he’s pissed he’s going to be champing at the bit. If he’s happy he’s going to be grinning and giggling. This is if the joker (??) often went from laughing and teasing you to having a furious mental breakdown in an instant. He’s conflicted and he is full of rage. All the time. That’s his secret, cap. He’s always angry.
Magical: Hey This Is Dark Matter Taken Human Form. He radiates darkness and evil and if you can sense that kind of thing at All, you are going to instantly peg him as a dark/evil spirit. Unless, maybe, if you are from KH. There might be some nuance if you are from KH, because this guy has definitely grown a heart of his own, even if he didn't have it to begin with,
He’s Kind Of A Dick Clause

Relationships: ew???
Psychic/psionic: yeah that’s just wizard bullshit. That’s fine.
Magical: a wizard created a darkness construct to glue an immortality stone to his soul, and the darkness construct got fed up and left first chance he could. He took human form. He’s just the dark matter + wizard knowledge/energy + Super Fucking Mario Spirit.
Medical: this thing is NOT human he is quite literally PURE DARKNESS. He just looks human. Okay. he needed a body SOMEHOW.
Offensive subjects/triggers: he hates to be compared to Mario. he hates being a tool.
BONUS:
this dude's source material is based loosely off of Smash Bros, and Arthurania, circa 2009-2015. Brawl was the most relevant Smash Bros at the time. I'll keep him from fourthwalling you, easy, but he is bound to reference characters outside of just the Mario cast - Link and Ness and Snake somewhat primarily, as well as like, Ganondorf, probably. Warning? I guess.
Random note: i swear to god the series creator/darkness' actor mentioned that he took inspiration from a certain portrayal of the joker for playing darkness but i cannot source this or remember WHICH joker it was.
